A pictorial diary of my walks around the parks and wild areas of Leicestershire, and occasionally farther afield.

If you're new to my blog, you might like to have a look at the pictures in the older post as well (click on button at the bottom of the page).

I am also a writer, using the pen-name John Gwynant, and I'll occasionally announce my latest book release on the blog.

warblers at watermead - 12 May 2012

A walk in watermead again, mainly because we had to go to Birstall for something else.

An orange tip butterfly was sitting on a leaf at the side of the path, basking in the sunshine. They are normally difficult to photograph as they rarely stay still for long.

It was so placid, I was able to move around an take a picture from the side.

Further along, past the beaches there's a line of bushes that seem to attract warblers and this sedge warbler was flying up and down the line, stopping to sing for a few minutes at each turn.

I haven't seen a heron for a while, but this one was happy to sit on the edge of the lake and be photographed.
