A pictorial diary of my walks around the parks and wild areas of Leicestershire, and occasionally farther afield.

If you're new to my blog, you might like to have a look at the pictures in the older post as well (click on button at the bottom of the page).

I am also a writer, using the pen-name John Gwynant, and I'll occasionally announce my latest book release on the blog.

Watermead South - 31 May 2011

The car park for Watermead South is still closed so we parked at Birstall and walked across the bridge. The first thing we noticed was this huddle of Canada goslings, taking their after lunch nap.

They didn't seem bothered by people walking by, or me taking pictures, but one of the parent birds was keeping an eye on things.

There wasn't much happening in the way of wildlife, but the unusual colours of this mallard female caught my interest.

Most of the way round the lake and Skipper decided to play, he wanted me to throw this log for him.

It was more like a small caber from the highland games, but he wouldn't give up and carried for most of the remainder of the walk.
