A pictorial diary of my walks around the parks and wild areas of Leicestershire, and occasionally farther afield.

If you're new to my blog, you might like to have a look at the pictures in the older post as well (click on button at the bottom of the page).

I am also a writer, using the pen-name John Gwynant, and I'll occasionally announce my latest book release on the blog.

Watermead Park - 6 August 2011

Watermead was a bit more lively yesterday, with a variety of wildlife showing itself.

The orange tip females were first to show and there seemed to be a lot of them, strange though, no males that we saw.

Then this Red Admiral showed up and settled on a few places where I could get it's picture, nice to see a bit of colour after all the white wings of the orange tips.

A bee joined them and hovered for a second when my lens was pointing in her direction.

As I approached the hole in the wall hide I could see this Heron, but as I got closer I could see a Little Egret and when the Heron saw it, he took off.  After he left another Little Egret arrived and a few minutes later a third landed. It looks like they've decided to settle here.
